About Annin Flagmakers
Founded in 1847, Annin Flagmakers is the oldest and largest flag manufacturer in the United States, still owned and run by the sixth generation of the founding family. Its American flags are sewn, printed, and embroidered at three domestic factories in Virginia and Ohio, and its flags have flown at moments ranging from Lincoln's funeral to the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Heritage
Annin traces its roots to a New York ship chandlery on Fulton Street, where founder Alexander Annin sewed custom sails before turning the business fully to flagmaking in 1847. His sons Benjamin and Edward took over the growing company, and leadership passed down through Louis Annin Ames and later his grandchildren, the Beard and Dennis families, who still run the business today. Carter Beard, who became president and CEO in 2011, represents the sixth generation to lead the company, tracing his lineage back to his great-grandfather, Louis Annin Ames.
American Manufacturing
Annin's roughly 500 American workers operate three dedicated factories, each with its own specialty. The 186,000-square-foot South Boston, Virginia plant produces American, state, international, and custom flags using stand-up sewing alongside a high-speed digital printing line; the 152,000-square-foot Coshocton, Ohio facility turns out more than three million full-size American flags a year plus retail displays, hand-held flags, and bunting; and the 40,000-square-foot Cobbs Creek, Virginia plant embroiders over one million star fields annually using entirely domestic fabric and thread. Annin was a founding member of the Flag Manufacturers Association of America in 2005, the trade group behind the Certified Made in USA seal for American flags.
