About Delong Lures
DeLong Lures is a soft-plastic fishing lure company founded in Akron, Ohio in 1946 by David DeLong. After changes in ownership and a 2012 shutdown, the brand was revived in 2021 by Stephen Ziegler and Aaron Futrell, who now hand-pour lures in Canal Fulton, Ohio.
Heritage & History
DeLong Lures traces its roots to 1946, when Akron, Ohio tinkerer David DeLong poured his first six-inch, three-hook KILR Worm in his home basement. The company grew into one of the earliest soft-plastic fishing lure makers in the United States, relocating to Cleveland and then Centerville, Ohio, where it introduced scented lures, patented weedless hook systems (U.S. Patent 3,221,437), and oversized soft plastics featured in Field & Stream, Sports Afield, and Bassmaster through the 1960s-80s.
After changing hands several times and shutting down in 2012, DeLong Lures was purchased in early 2021 by Stephen Ziegler and Aaron Futrell, two anglers who had grown up fishing the brand's baits. They brought DeLong back to northeast Ohio, where it originally started, reviving the original KILR worms, the Giant Witch, and the 16-inch Snake using the company's historic mold library.
Made in Canal Fulton, Ohio
Production began in Stephen Ziegler's parents' garage before moving to a facility in Canal Fulton, a historic town in Stark County, Ohio. There, DeLong Lures hand-pours its soft-plastic baits and bakes molds for durability, following the same process the company has used since 1946.
Every DeLong bait is made in the USA using anise-scented formulas consistent with the brand's original recipes, from tiny panfish lures like the Corn Borer to giant bass and muskie baits like the Flying Witch and 16-inch Snake.
