Heritage & History
YETI was founded in 2006 in Austin, Texas by brothers Roy and Ryan Seiders, who were frustrated that coolers built for the serious outdoor use they demanded — extended hunting and fishing trips — failed to hold ice long enough or survive the abuse of rough outdoor use. They designed the Tundra cooler with commercial-grade roto-molded construction, thick insulation walls, and a gasket-sealed lid that delivered five days of ice retention — performance that existing consumer coolers couldn't approach.
The YETI Rambler tumbler, introduced later, applied the same premium insulation technology to drinkware — stainless steel with vacuum insulation that kept coffee hot for hours and iced drinks cold all day. Both product categories immediately attracted copying from competitors, a form of flattery that validated YETI's insight that consumers would pay for performance that delivered on its promises.
