Radio Flyer has designed iconic American children's ride-ons from Chicago, Illinois since 1917, creating the legendary Little Red Wagon that became a universal symbol of American childhood and outdoor play for over a century.

Heritage & History

Radio Flyer was founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1917 by Antonio Pasin, an Italian immigrant who arrived in America at age 16 with $8 and a dream. Working as a cabinet maker by day and building wagons in a rented garage by night, Pasin launched Liberty Coaster Company — later renamed Radio Flyer, inspired by his enthusiasm for two emerging technologies: radio and aviation. By the 1930s, Pasin was mass-producing his steel wagons using techniques borrowed from the automobile industry, making the Little Red Wagon affordable for every American family.

The Radio Flyer stand at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair — featuring a 45-foot long wagon — was one of the exposition's most popular exhibits. The Little Red Wagon became the defining toy of mid-century American childhood, and the brand's Chicago identity has remained constant through four generations of Pasin family ownership. The company still calls Chicago home, and all Radio Flyer product design, engineering, and testing happens at the Chicago headquarters.

Designed in Chicago, Illinois

Radio Flyer's Chicago headquarters is where every wagon, tricycle, scooter, and ride-on product is designed and engineered. The company's 100+ years of children's vehicle design experience is embedded in the engineering team that specifies steel gauges, wheel materials, and safety features for each new product generation.

The Classic Red Wagon remains the flagship — available in original steel or the lightweight plastic version for younger children. The Red Rider Trike features an adjustable seat and a parent-push handle that grows with toddlers from age 2 to 5. The Scoot About ride-on lets 1-3 year olds develop leg strength and coordination before moving to a bike. The 4-in-1 Stroll and Trike adapts through multiple configurations as children grow. Radio Flyer's centennial collection and heritage products connect modern families to the same outdoor play experience that generations of American children shared — designed in Chicago, tested to ASTM standards, and built for the yards, driveways, and sidewalks of American neighborhoods.
